What does an orthopedic doctor treat?
The musculoskeletal system: bones, joints, ligaments, tendons and muscles. That includes knee, hip, shoulder, spine, ankle and foot problems.
When should I see an orthopedic doctor?
If pain limits your daily life, there is recurrent swelling, locking, instability, or symptoms last more than 2–3 weeks.
Are traumatologist and orthopedist the same?
In Ecuador the specialty is Traumatology and Orthopedics. It’s the same field for diagnosing and treating musculoskeletal conditions.
Do you treat sports injuries?
Yes. I treat meniscus and ACL injuries, overuse conditions, and joint pain with a safe return plan.
Do I need an MRI before the visit?
Not necessarily. I evaluate your case first and order imaging only if it will change the plan.
When is knee surgery recommended?
When conservative care isn’t enough or when the injury clearly limits function. I always explain options and risks.
Is arthroscopy a major surgery?
It’s minimally invasive and usually has a faster recovery than open surgery.
Do you use robotics in every knee case?
No. Navigation/robotics is used when it adds precision, especially in knee replacement or complex alignment.
Can I avoid surgery if I have arthritis?
Often yes. Physiotherapy, weight management, and pain control help; surgery is considered when pain limits life.
Do you see patients from outside Quito?
Yes. We coordinate appointments so your visit is efficient.
