Meniscus & arthroscopy

Meniscus treatment: repair or trim?

The meniscus is the knee’s shock absorber. Tears can be traumatic or degenerative and may cause locking or catching. I prioritize repair to preserve tissue; trim only when necessary, based on your MRI and clinical exam.

Meniscus pain

When do you need meniscus surgery?

Not every tear needs the OR. With your MRI I decide if we can repair to preserve the meniscus or if a partial meniscectomy is safer. Preserving protects cartilage and stability.

Locking or catching when walking.
Pain when twisting or squatting.
Frequent swelling and sense of instability.
Complex tears or tears with arthritis.

Common question

How much is a meniscus operation in Quito?

Cost varies by technique (repair vs partial meniscectomy) and imaging. I accept private insurance, international plans, and direct pay to keep it clear from the first consult.
